“La Bella Figura: A Field Guide to the Italian Mind” by Severgnini helps in understanding the nature of the Italian food identity, and culture. As a visitor to Italy, my recollections about the various aspects and my experience was important. Severgnini explains the different Italian experiences which relate to other nations in the Europe. Severgnini recognizes that the Italians enjoys and invests heavily in retaining their food identity. The Italian food identity and culture remains one of the most decorated traditions in the Europe, but it faces serious tests for its existence in the 21st century. 

The topics of the reading involve the learning of the nature of the Italian foods and the impact of the Italian trends in the society.  In the review, the topics include the understanding of the integration of the regional cuisines towards preserving the Italian food cultures. The purpose of these topics was to provide a comprehensive understand of the food culture and identity in the Italian society.  It can offer a clear way of appreciating the ability of the Italian foods and foodways to remain relevant in the society. Regarding Italian food, the author explains the ability of Italians to deliver late night empire cooking which includes pleasant experiences. It appreciates Italy to have a strong foundation in traditions.

The readings were able to provide a practical and detailed information to the study of the course material. It examined how the regional cuisines valued the Italian food culture and cooking techniques. The reading also presents different illustrations and examples about the real life experiences in restaurants in Milan. Such illustrations were important in understanding the knowledge taught in my course. It remains a cultural heritage due to the ability to mobilize local knowledge and products relating to the foodways.     

The theoretical assumptions of the reading were all the Italians enjoys and values the traditional food culture and identity. It is an implication the food and foodways of Italy are acceptable and influential among different societies in the European region. The assumptions were explicitly discussed by the author to understand the impact of the Italian food culture. The article was keen to recognize that the huge percentage of the Italians enjoys their Italian cooking compared to other cuisines in Europe. The Italians are more patriotic to their food cooking cultures than any other non-Italians. However, some enjoy the Chinese and French cuisines. The Italians possess a strong natural relationship with their foods. They are never bored with their cooking and cuisines as they believe it forms their everyday life.  

The reading can contribute significantly to my observations about food and foodways in Italy. I learned the traditional values of the food menu and the styles in Italy. The information is critical in changing my perceptions about the foods in the major cities in Italy. The Italians were supportive of their food culture and values. For example, I can now appreciate the importance of timing in the ordering of the different forms of foods in Italy. Since the Italian foods seem to follow a certain code and regulation that often confuses the non-Italians. In my experiences, I was able to enjoy big food menu which I required a translator.  The Italy food menu in the restaurants was indigenous indicating the value of the traditional Italian foods and cooking styles. In spite of all, the reading was crucial in introducing to a fascinating Italian food culture and identity. My experiences with the Italian food culture was impressive due to the ability to integrate the traditional ways of eating into the modern kitchen in most restaurants. 

Moreover, the writing of Bella Figura relays that the process of emigration had given the Italian a significant international success. They were able to open hotels and eateries, providing other Italians forms of cooking, and different home food variety. During the Renaissance period, the Italian cooking was excellent, but its delicacy was available to the upper-class people in the society. The new style of Italian cooking was exceptional and would be influential in the world.  However, the years goes by, and Italy has been picking bad ways of cooking. The experience in the Italian restaurants is critical. In an afternoon lunch in Milan, it means an evening meal to many Italians due to their complicated food identity. The Italian catering is controlled by laws which are often ignored by the society.

Food and drink for Italy provide a vast expansion of habits and expulsions for visitors who cannot blend in. Nevertheless, the Italians are always friendly to help with understanding their food culture and style. For instance, it is unethical for an individual to order a cappuccino after ten clocks in Milan. However, it depends on with the weather at the specific time. If it is too cold, it is understandable to have the cappuccino. The author details that the Italian style of cooking ranges from varied to unified styles. In the late 14th century, there are arose evidence about the circulation of food items, preferences, and methods. Recently, the interests have more on modern foods which undermine the traditional Italian cooking. I learn to understand the different food menus and style of cooking. 

From the reading, I cannot see an alternative view to my argument that the Italian food culture is strong. Unlike most European cultures, Italians defends their food culture and styles of cooking which is influential to their future progress. I believe the Italian restaurants plays an important role in supporting traditional Italian food cultures. Thus, I cannot find any issue that could change their viewpoint to my perception of the Italian food identity and culture. In each year, the Italians spends more than fifty billion euros for eating outs. The total is inclusive of unremarkable meals and other indulgences and surprises. For example, the author recognizes that in Milan, the cost of meals is higher than in Paris. However, the Italians continues to book and eat from the restaurants. The nature of marketing has undermined the Italian food and eating culture pushing people to eat out. Restaurants have learned the way to offer the customers more services to the food. They could provide innovation and reassurance among other values that are important. 

The author also explains that the young chefs have recognized the negative influence of the modern food recipes. However, they use the traditional recipes and works on them accordingly. Today, an Italian menu is complex. I found it difficult to read through the menu provided in a restaurant in Milan. I would not go through it without a good translator. Such actions are efforts undertaken by the Italians to preserve their Italian food menus. In the article, the author quoted a song that explained the risks faced by the Italian food culture.  The songwriter appreciates that in the era of the European Union, it was difficult to maintain the traditional Italian food and eating cultures.

The reading raises future discussion about the impact of new food culture and menus to undermine the existing food menus and arrangements. The influence of technology has often undermined the importance of the Italians traditional ways of eating and cooking. The article was critical of the ways of preserving the Italian foods and ways of eating. It only involves the focus on pride and distrust. It is important to appreciate the unity of the Italian food culture which shapes the industry. The transformation from the life before the unification to a more interactive system was difficult. The poor people in the society were not able to get food and sustain their fundamental rights. The reading examines the impact of class levels that creates a gap between the various people in the society. I found it critical to understand that the Italian food culture was appropriate. 

The further information from the reading also includes the abandonment of the traditions by the Italians Americans. The Italian Americans dumped their traditions including the amazing cook techniques. Such events is an indication of the adjusting approaches in the Italian food culture and identity. Compared to other people in Europe, the Italians loves and appreciates their homeland foods and are not concerned about cooking them.  At all times, the Italians are proud of their food knowledge that enriches their cultural knowledge and stability. Thus, the reading insisted on the ability of the Italians to fight for the continuity and future of their foods. 

Moreover, the relations in major Italian cities and territories usually comes into play towards influencing the Italian food culture. Economic and cultural interactions which connects the local Italian aspect could be described by the modern movement of products in the various regions. The Italians should try to avoid the influence of the foreign habits and methods of eating. The author seems to appreciate the influence of the modern cultures and values in the deterioration of Italian eating and cooking styles. However, it is difficult for the Italian society to overcome the impact of the technological era and modern factors within the society. 

I think the author can relate well the status of Italian American floodways alongside the current food trends. Considering the increasing the consumer demand for goods, the contemporary trend of foods has adopted traditional ethnic Italian foods while eliminating their ethnic values. The new trends in foods have created an opportunity for a new artisanal way that aligns with the historical values. The non-Italians are unable to understand the traditional food culture. However, the Italians are always fighting for their cultural supremacy and recognition in Brussels. 

Most importantly, Italy is a city that connects with other cities due to its cuisines.  Italy structured its cultural identity in a networking perception that has attracted many people to the country. Being in the middle of the Peninsula, Italy still attempts to influence the principles of life and cultures including foods. The foodways in Italy helps in understanding the struggle to obtain a space in the Italian society. It is clear that the Italians a strongly attached to the regional cuisines integrating with the immigration elements that shows the conflict between the future of the immigrants and the foodways in Italy. 

My opinion is that I support the Italian food and foodways due to their ability to preserve culture. However, I think they should make more efforts in dealing with the various modern aspects that could deteriorate the food culture. For instance, the American foodways have impacted the European restaurant arrangement and food menus. Nevertheless, I believe the Italian restaurants can remain strong in influencing trend in the food culture.  

In summary, the food identity and culture of the Italian cuisines is appropriate. Italian food cuisines enjoy a strong base of support in the society. The new trends in foods have created an opportunity for a new artisanal way that aligns with the historical values. The non-Italians are unable to understand the traditional food culture. However, the Italians should try to avoid the influence of the foreign habits and methods of eating. The author seems to appreciate the influence of the modern cultures and values in the deterioration of Italian eating and cooking styles.
