Weight loss surgery is not recommended as current willingness to have slim body in many cases is stipulated by fashion standards and not by health problems. Despite the fact that weight loss surgery is considered to be the quickest way to get rid of obesity, it has no right to be applied because of numeral disadvantages and danger it carries.
Weight loss surgery is very expensive procedure. On average, in the United States of America the price ranges from $17,000 to $30,000, which is enough to buy a car of business class. Moreover, weight loss surgery is not an effective way to lose weight. For example, Structure House, a private clinic in North Carolina which studies weight management, informs that about 30% of people who have experienced surgery regain weight within two years after the procedure. Weight loss surgery should be prohibited as it deceives patients. It is not a procedure that can be done and the results of which will remain constant. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive & Kidney Disease (NIDDK) highlights that about 20% of patients need another operation, because not all the body problems can be removed from the first time.
Weight loss surgery should not be applied in order to exclude the chance to get severe complications that follow it. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), 20 percent of patients experience such health problems as excessive bleeding, heart attack, ulcers, infection, etc soon after the surgery.
Moreover, weight loss surgery can lead to death. The statistics data informs that during the thirty days after the surgery there appears on average four hundred people whose organisms are not able to cope with the complications like nausea, vomiting, other stomach problems die.
In conclusion, I would like to say that every person on the planet gets life and body only once. We differ from each other in height, weight, color of the eyes and type of hair. However, all these differences make us unique and important. People’s willingness to lose weight to resemble models from the cover of a glossy magazine is at least irrational because weight of every person depends not only on the amount of food eaten, but on the peculiarities of every organism. Any interference into this complicated but balanced system may be fatal. Weight loss surgery is the intrusion of such kind. The profits of surgery, promised by the numerous advertisements, are created by people who want to earn a lot of money. As today everything can be sold and bought, money can be made from anything. It is the fact that money is often earned due to somebody’s sufferings. Real statistics of weight loss surgery is much horrifying: buying a very expensive surgery about 30% of people regain weight again, 20% of patients need another operation, 20% of patients experience severe complications, and approximately 400 people die because of it. Surgery brings people health problems and even death. Is that what they are born for?
